Network Administrator

Tier 2 Network Support Engineer. Work to ensure that the University network environment is reliable and stable. Primary task is to work with the Network Team in management and maintenance of the campus network infrastructure. Secondary tasks include research and testing of new and emerging technologies in partnership with vendors. Job responsibilities to include: Act as the networking team technical expert; Create engineering design documents for applicable LAN/WAN; Develop templates and documentation to improve operational procedures using best practice methods; Develop designs for network upgrades and additions incorporating new technologies and standards; Identify, evaluate, and repair network related problems; Develop and maintain configuration standards for network equipment; Work with vendors and partners, project managers, network and systems administrators, engineers, and the university academic and research community; Other duties as assigned by the Senior Engineer/Manager and IT Services Management.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science. Cisco certifications: CCNA or better, required. CCNP certification a plus. Minimum 3-5 years experience that includes: network and operational support, hands-on implementation and configuration of network devices such as routers, hubs, switches, desktop computers, and cabling in a large scale LAN/WAN environment. Knowledge of Switched Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, Wireless, VoIP, EIGRP, and BGP is necessary. Experience with network security, firewall and IDS implementation is a plus.
